Tony,

Regarding your question of August 8th.

"I am not sure what connections, if any, there are between lengths & distances."

Firstly, all lengths are Common Linear Measure and all lenghts are 6 ft. or less.

All lengths are the foot, or divisors/multiples of the foot, or divisors of the triple multiple of the foot (the yard), or a multiple of the twelfth divisor of the foot (the ell).

1 douzieme = 1/1728 ft.
1 fth. = 6 ft.

Secondly, all distances are Common Linear Measure of either:

various leagues between 15000 ft. & 20160 ft.
various miles between 5000 ft. & 6720 ft.
various furlongs of some such miles
various poles of some such miles

Only the distances of the 5000 ft. militia mile and the 6080 ft. nautical mile are calculated by Common Linear Measure only, as are all lengths.

All other miles are calculated by combined Common Linear Measure & Common Superficial Measure. Additionally such combined dual miles, when used as linear miles, have two special divisors:

various furlongs
various poles

Over the past 1300 years one such combined dual mile has been used almost exclusively. In its' linear form that mile, its' league, and its' divisors are:

1 stat. league = 15840 ft.
1 stat.ml. = 5280 ft.
1 stat.fur. = 660 ft.
1 stat.po. = 16 1/2 ft.

Finally, to sum up.

All lengths are between:

1/1728 ft. & 6 ft.

All distances are either:

various triple distances of linear ml., or combined linear/superficial ml. when linear
various distances between 5000 ft. & 6720 ft., that is, various ml.
various 1/8 distances of combined linear/superficial ml., when linear
various 1/320 distances of combined linear/superficial ml., when linear

As you can see, lengths are fixed, but distances are only fixed when the required mile is selected.

Common Superficial Measure

P.S.

babylon/assyria cube = (6 x 10) x (6 x 10) x (6 x 10) = 216,000
egypt/arabic cube = 10 x 10 x 10 = 1000
216 = 6 x 6 x 6
1000 = 10 x 10 x 10
1.216 = ((10 x 10 x 10) -:- 1000) + ((6 x 6 x 6) -:- 1000)

Earth's Equator = 1.216 x 108,000,000 ft. = 131,328,000 ft.
1 sextant Eq. = 1.216 x 18,000,000 ft. = 21,888,000 ft.
1 degree Eq. = 1.216 x 300,000 ft. = 364,800 ft.
1 minute Eq. = 1.216 x 5000 ft. or militia mile = 6080 ft. or naut.ml.
1 second Eq. = 1.216 x 1000 in. = 1216 in.
1/10 second Eq. = 1.216 x 100 in. = 121.6 in.
1/100 second Eq. = 1.216 x 10 in. = 12.16 in.
1/1000 second Eq. = 1.216 x 1 inch = 1.216 inch

1 fluid ounce (1.8 cu.in.) =/> 1.216 x 1.216 x 1.216 in. = 1.798045696 cu.in.
1 fl.oz. (1.800 cu.in.) = 1 avoirdupois ounce of wine = 437 1/2 gr.
1 fl.oz. (1.800 cu.in.) = 1000/960 avdp.oz. distilled water @ max.dens.
1.728 cu.in. = 1 avdp.oz. distilled water @ max.dens. 39.2 F. deg.
1.728 cu.in. = 1.2 x 1.2 x 1.2 in.

1 cu.ft. = 60 avdp.lb. of wine
1 cu.ft. = 60 fl.pt.
1 cu.ft. = 1000/16 avdp.lb. distilled water @ max.dens. 39.2 F. deg.

Argh, my length in imperial is 6'1'' !
Does that mean I don't exist ? Or even worse, I'm a figment of my own imagination ? (cogito ergo sum ?)
Will that mean I vanish into a cloud of thought when xcole disproves my existence ?
Am I God ? (Since that was how God was disproven in "The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy")

I feel confused, yet very powerful...

It is obvious that you cannot possibly be 6'1":

"As you can see, lengths are fixed, but distances are only fixed when the required mile is selected."

Evidently, you have failed to select the correct mile. If you had you would discover that you are not God but an insignificant dwarf only 6" long, not unlike the Decadent Republic of Europe's Emperor Napoleon.

Could someone please help me to select the correct mile for the sake of my life ?!!!

It's the one, Ralf, with the unrememberable factor of 1760.

1760 is also the year in which King George III came to the throne. He eventually went mad.

During the reign of his successor, the statue mile fiannly became *the* mile that was used in the United Kingdom and in the Empire. (The Scottish mile and Irish mile were suppressed - the nautical mile only remained because 1 nautical mile was apporx 1 degree of latitude).

THE ONE, THE TRUE, AND UNIVERSAL MILE

October 12 2002, 4:50 PM

The only true mile, gentlemen (and ladies if any are listening) is the E38 mile which on the planet Zortlax we write as

10**38 (h-barG/c**3)**1/2

The length (h-barG/c**3)**1/2 was established for us in ancient times by Zortmax, the Giant Physicist.

THIS IS A CLASSIC THREAD GUYS!
