Tony,
Regarding your question of July 14th.
"I wonder where the cubit comes into planetary measurement."
Complete measure system cubit:
1 cubit = 18 in.
Truncated measure system cubit:
1 egyptian cubit = 18.240 in.
The complete measure system cubit is of no consequence because it is not either one of the two fundamental linear units of the complete measure system.
1 ft. = 12 in.
1 in. = 1/12 ft.
As you can see, the cubit is simply a divisor of the triple multiple of the foot:
(3 x 1 ft.) -:- 2 = 1 1/2 ft. = 1 cubit
The truncated measure system egyptian cubit is unique. It is the only length that is not multiplied by 1.216 in order to fit planetary measure. The reason is because it already has been.
1.216 = ((10 x 10 x 10) -:- 1000) + ((6 x 6 x 6) -:- 1000)
1.216 x 15 in. = 18.240 in. = 1 egyptian cubit
1/2 pace = 15 in.
1/3 ell = 15 in.
1 egyptian cubit = 18 6/25 in.
Because clocks & wristwatches are so small, it is impossible to cram the complete measure system into them. Even if you could, the marks would be so tiny that you couldn't read them. So where the complete measure system uses 60, the truncated measure system uses only 4.
So firstly, the complete measure system.
1 Earth Equator = 1.216 x 108,000,000 ft. = 131,328,000 ft.
1 sextant Eq. = 1.216 x 18,000,000 ft. = 21,888,000 ft.
1 degree Eq. = 1.216 x 300,000 ft. = 364,800 ft.
1 minute Eq. = 1.216 x 5000 ft. or militia mile = 6080 ft. or naut.ml.
1 second Eq. = 1.216 x 1000 in. = 1216 in.
1/10 second Eq. = 1.216 x 100 in. = 121.6 in.
1/100 second Eq. = 1.216 x 10 in. = 12.16 in.
1/1000 second Eq. = 1.216 x 1 inch = 1.216 inch
1 fluid ounce (1.800 cu.in.) =/> 1.216 x 1.216 x 1.216 in. = 1.798045696 cu.in.
1 fl.oz. = 1.800 cu.in. = 1 avdp.oz. wine = 437 1/2 gr.
1 fl.oz. = 1.800 cu.in. = 1000/960 avdp.oz. distilled water @ max.dens. 39.2 F.
1.728 cu.in. = 1 avdp.oz. distilled water @ max.dens. = 1.2 x 1.2 x 1.2 in.
1 cu.ft. = 1000 avdp.oz. distilled water = 1728 cu.in. = 12 x 12 x 12 in.
1 cu.ft. = 960 avdp.oz. wine =1728 cu.in. = 12 x 12 x 12 in.
1 cu.ft. = 960 fl.oz. = 1728 cu.in. = 12 x 12 x 12 in.
1 cu.ft. = 60 avdp.lb. wine
1 cu.ft. = 1000/16 avdp.lb. distilled water @ max.dens. 39.2 F.
1 cu.ft. = 60 fl.pt.
1 cu.ft. = 30 fl.qt.
1 cu.ft. = 15 fl.pot.
1 cu.ft. = 7 1/2 fl.gal.
960 fl.oz. = 1 cu.ft.
960 fl.oz. = 960f. = 240d. = 20s. = £1
960 fl.oz. = 4f. x 12d. x 20s. = £1
960 avdp.oz. wine = 1 cu.ft.
960 avdp.oz. wine = 960f. = 240d. = 20s. = £1
960 avpp.oz. wine = 4f. x 12d. x 20s. = £1
1000 avdp.oz. distilled water = 1 cu.ft.
1000 avdp.oz. distilled water = 1000 x 1 = 100 x 10 = 10 x 100 = 1000
1000 avdp.oz. distilled water = (10 x 10/10) x (10 x 10/10) x (10 x 10/10) = 1000
1/1000" arc Eq. =/< one side of 1 fl.oz. of common fluid measure (1.216 in.)
1" arc of Earth's Equator = 1.216 in. x (10 x 10 x 10)
Now secondly, the truncated measure system.
1 Earth Equator = 1.216 x 108,000,000 ft. = 86,400,000 egyptian cubits
1 sextant time = 1.216 x 18,000,000 ft. = 14,400,000 egyptian cubits
1 hour time = 1.216 x 4,500,000 ft. = 3,600,000 egyptian cubits
1 minute time = 1.216 x 75,000 ft. = 60,000 egyptian cubits
1 second time = 1.216 x 15,000 in. = 1000 egyptian cubits
1/10 second time = 1.216 x 1500 in. = 100 egyptian cubits
1/100 second time = 1.216 x 150 in. = 10 egyptian cubits
1/1000 second time = 1.216 x 15 in. = 1 egyptian cubit
Just remember, we're talking real time here, not sonny boy time.

P.S.
Tony,
A minor point, distilled water maximum density temperature is
39.1712 F.,
but for standard purposes it's taken as:
39.2 F. degree
3.19 R. grade
96.02 C. grade
3.98 Ct. grade

What information do you have about the 'royal cubit', or 'king's cubit'? - I think about 20"? |
