Heinz,

Regarding your question of March 10th.

"Is a strike struck. If so, why are struck strikes struck and how is a struck strike struck when a strike is struck."

answer: Yes

The dry strike is struck, as are all dry measures. If any dry measure container is heaped, then it no longer contains exact dry measure: it contains an extra quantity.

The above assumes that open top containers are used. Of course if closed top containers are used the question does not arise, as no extra quantity can be heaped up.

Just as the open top container dry bucket doubles as the fluid pail, and the open top container dry bushel doubles as the fluid firkin, so the open top container dry strike doubles as the fluid runlet.

1 dry strike = 1/36 dry last
1 dry strike = 1/18 dry chalder
1 dry strike = 1/16 dry wey
1 dry strike = 1/4 dry seam
1 dry strike = 4/9 dry bbl.
1 dry strike = 1/2 dry coomb
1 dry strike = 2 dry bushels
1 dry strike = 4 dry buckets
1 dry strike = 8 dry pecks
1 dry strike = 16 dry gal.
1 dry strike = 32 dry pot.
1 dry strike = 64 dry qt.
1 dry strike = 128 dry pt.
1 dry strike = 128 avdp.lb. wheat
1 dry strike = 149 1/3 fl.pt.
1 dry strike = 149 1/3 avdp.lb. wine
1 dry strike = 2389 1/3 fl.oz.
1 dry strike = 2389 1/3 avdp.oz. wine
1 dry strike = 1146880 fM
1 dry strike = 155 5/9 avdp.lb. distilled water @ max.dens. 39.2 F.
1 dry strike = 2488 8/9 avdp.oz. distilled water @ max.dens. 39.2 F.
1 dry strike = 4300.800 cu.in.

1 dry strike = 1 1/27 fl. runlet

1 fl. runlet = 18 fl.gal.
1 fl. runlet = 2.4 cu.ft. = 4147.200 cu.in.

When an open top container dry strike is used as a dry strike, it is filled above the rim, and then struck off level with the rim with a stick or rod.

Just remember, an open top container dry strike doubles as an open top container fluid runlet.

All open top container dry strikes, dry bushels, & dry buckets, will have a score mark on the inside of the container showing how far to fill it up with liquids. The score mark will be about 1" below the rim.

Are these current British measures, current American measures, archaic American measures, archaic British measures, measures used in the English colonies in New England?

If you cannot define where and when these measures are or were used, then writing about them is not worht the paper that is used in the process.
