Heil Great Fuhrer Comrade Kim Jong Il
Heil Heroic Dictatorship of The Proletariat
Heil Socialist Camp

Comrade Conrad,

Regarding your statement of January 12th 2003.

"Nation after nation has made the swing over to the 'metric scheme'."

Would you be so kind as to let me know which nation has swung over to the Napoleon Emperor's Republic of Europe Decadent Weights & Measures scheme, or using your words "metric scheme". If no nation has done so yet, can you let me know which nation you think may "swing over" to the N.E.R.E. scheme in the near future.

The reason I ask is that I am interested in making a TV documentary on the mammoth marital & moral & marine & manufacturing & mercantile & monetary & madcap & martial advantages that will accrue to the very first nation / country / county / march / duchy / principality / sultanate / emirate / khanate / sheikhdom / electorate / landgraviate / margraviate / province / colony / crown state / kingdom / empire / free state / republic / commonwealth / dominion / district / plantation / territory / possession / zone / protectorate / mandate / condominium in the world, that adopts the N.E.R.E. scheme.

Or, "swings over to the metric scheme".

You did mention the word "nation", so to make it easy on yourself, why don't you just restrict your enquiries to the listed members and listed non-members of the United States of World, as it often refers to itself as the "United Nations". You will find them at:

United Nations of World
Town of New York
Free State of New York
United States of America

Or have a look at their website:

http://www.un.org/Depts/Cartographic/english/geoname

There you will find a complete list of all 193 member state/non-nation jurisdictions & member state/nation jurisdictions that make up the United States of World.

Additionally the website lists 65 state/non-nation jurisdictions & non-member non-state/non-nation jurisdictions & non-member state/nation jurisdictions & non-member non-state/nation jurisdictions that are not members of the United States of World.

193 United States of World members
65 United States of World non-members

That makes 258 jurisdictions or, using your word, "nations".

If you could just let me know which jurisdiction has adopted, or which jurisdiction will be the first to adopt the N.E.R.E. scheme, I would be obliged. I will send you a free full-length copy of any TV documentary that I make on the world's first recorded use of the N.E.R.E. scheme, as a token of your contribution.

Needless to say, your name will have the largest typeface in the film's list of credits.

If you are not familiar with the stere, are, metre, heure, litre, gravre, or centigrade of the N.E.R.E. scheme, have a look at site:

http://www.weights-and-measures.com

P.S.
Comrade Conrad,
Can you ensure that your very first enquiry is to your very own beloved Democratic Socialist People's Labor Republic of Korea. In particular what measurements you are using to make nuclear bombs. I ask you to do this in a hurry, because it appears that one of the following jurisdictions or states or nations will shortly cease to exist because of the heroic use of D.S.P.L.R.K.s bombs.
United States of America
United Kingdom of Ulster & Grand Breton

I don't know what XCole is on, but his halucinations seem to have a strange time-warp element attached to them.

Firstly, he is plugging a booklet that appears to have first been written by an ancestor of his in the 1820's and has had a few minor updates since that date.

Secondly he is forever talking about Napoleon's system. Emperor Napoleon I died in 1821 and his tomb is in Paris while and Emperor Naoleon III died in 1873 and his tomb is in Farnborough (I jest not!).

In 1875 the Convention of the Metre was signed and the BIPM took over the administration of the metric system, basing its headquarters in Paris. (The UK became a siognatory in 1879). The system has been revised a number of times (See www.bipm.fr) and the current incarnation is known as "System Internationale" (or SI) for short.

In answer to XCole's question about how many countries now use the metric system or NERE , the answer is "none". Had XCole not been trapped in his time warp and had asked the correct question namely "How many countries use the metric system, also known as SI", the answer would be "most of them".

I also nominate Xcole for Crackpot of the Year award. That guy just gets wierder with every posting.

I reckon that if you would take all the countries in the world, you would find that the majority of them use metric and that in a few, the inhabitants continue to use their own measurements alongside. How many countries also use their own system of measurements on a widespread basis, be it the imperial that we know here or anything else?
