You made one statement on February 26th @ 4.26 p.m.
"66' was also useful because a person's regular pace was about 3', so a person could pace out his own property with 22 paces per gun. chain."
Who was that, Paul Bunyan?
Yeah Matt, you better double-bit axe that one again.
gunter chain = 66 ft.
gunter pace = 31.68 in.
That's 25 gun. paces, not 22.
militia / roman / land / infantry / mile mile = 5000 ft.
militia / roman / land / infantry / mile pace = 30 in.
You made another statement on February 26th @ 4.26 p.m.
"Most U.S. Districts, U.S. Territories, & U.S. States, were surveyed into squares of one section (1 section = 1 sq.stat.ml.). The gunter chain was used to do this."
1. You have not explained what a gunter chain is, and why it is vital to any surveying.
The gunter chain is the base of the superficial statute mile.
1 gunter chain = 66 ft.
2. You have not explained what a statute mile is, and why it is vital to any surveying.
You cannot triangulate the militia mile
1 militia mile / 1 mile mile = 5000 ft.
You cannot triangulate the nautical mile
1 nautical mile = 6080 ft.
base of 1 superficial statute mile = 1 gunter chain
perpendicular of 1 superficial statute mile = 80 gunter chains
base of 1 superficial statute mile = 1 builder's triangle base
perpendicular of 1 superficial statute mile = 60 bld. triangle perpendiculars
The builder's triangle is the basis, or base, of all human civilization.
babylon cube = 60 x 60 x 60 = 216,000
decimal & sexagesimal factor = 1.216
Planet Earth Equator = 6 x 60 x 60 x 60 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 1.216 in.
3. You have not explained why the militia mile has never been used in the United States.
In 1593 the England Parliament made the superficial statute mile of 66 ft. x 5280 ft. the only superficial mile, and also the only linear mile. That means the statute mile is a dual-purpose mile, used for both superficial measure & linear measure.
superficial mile = 66 ft. x 5280 ft. (statute mile)
linear mile = 5280 ft. (statute mile)
The first white man stepped onto the continent of North America, in 1607, at:
Town of Jamestown
Royal Province of Virginia
That's 14 years after 1593. That means the United States has never used on its' land mass two, or three, or four, or more, different miles. That is, the linear mile of 5000 ft. together with one, or two, or three, or more, different superficial miles.

Capt. Grosnold died August 22nd 1607
James City County Archaeologist says:
"Captain Grosnold is a healthy man in excellent condition."
(Well, well, and for the past 400 years we all thought Capt. Grosnold was dead.)

There are many superficial miles, but only two between 5000 ft. & 6080 ft. They are:
superficial mile of 66 ft. x 5280 ft. (superficial statute mile)
superficial mile of 72 ft. x 5760 ft.
5280 ft. was selected because it is much closer to the abolished linear militia mile of 5000 ft., than 5760 ft. is.
Wrong, the 5,280 foot mile was selected because it was 8 furlongs and the furlong was a popular measure at the time.
Furthermore, I thoroughly explained the genius of Gunter's chain. Perhaps if you knew anything about the history of the chain, you might not make such disgustingly nutty statements.

Matt,
Ignore him. Hwe will not let anybody know anything about himself, so we do not know where he comes from (geographically or professionally), apart form the fact that an ancestor of his published a book.
Everybody on this site know a bit about you - we know that you are American and that you are a civil engineer (you no doubt know a bit about me as well). This at least gives us some backgrpound knowledge about where you come from and what importance to put on your postings.
Current Topic - (militia pace = 30 in.) (gun. pace = 31.68 in.)
