"What are the daily required victuals for a cotton picker?"
The usual amount for a full growed buck fieldhand is shown below, but cut it down for lame, womenfolk, and younguns. Although 1 fl.gal. of water a day is shown, in practice this varies tremendously, dependingn on both temperature and the amount of work you're getting out of your fieldgang. In 24 deg. weather a hand might only need 1/2 fl.gal. or less, in 96 deg., 2 fl.gal. or more. Remember we're just talking drinking water. If there is anyway you can keep your drinking water below 48 deg. in warm weather, then do it, you'll get more work out of your fieldgang.
14 fl. cups food = able bodied fieldhand's daily balanced diet
4 fl. cups of milk, soft cheese, soup, pudding, ice cream
2 fl. cups of flesh, fish, fowl, egg, hard cheese, meaty soup, beans, peanut butter
4 fl. cups of green vegetable, yellow vegetable, fruit (include 1 citrus & 1 tomato)
4 fl. cups of wholemeal bread, potato, root vegetable, cereal, rice, pasta
14 fl. cups food = 7 fl.pt. = 6 dry pt. = 6 av.lb. wheat
16 fl. cups water = 8 fl.pt. = 8 av.lb. wine = 1 fl.gal.
14 av.lb. food & water = 6 av.lb. food + 8 av.lb. water = 1 av.st. food & water
1 fl. cup = 14.400 cu.in.
As you can see, you dish out food & water exactly the same way cooks prepare & cook food: with the fl. cup. That way your fieldgang know exactly what they're getting.
