1 fl.oz. = 1 av.oz. = 1 lr-oz. = 437 1/2 gr.

Bryan,

Regarding your question of July 11th @ 11.11 a.m.

"What is the supposed connection between the fluid ounce, the avoirdupois ounce, and the
leather-ounce, if any?"

They are all the same. The are all different. Take your pick.

1 fl.oz. = 1.800 cu.in.
1 fl.oz. = 1 av.oz. of wine
1 fl.oz. = 6/7 av.oz. of wheat
1 fl.oz. = 4/5 av.oz. of leather
1 fl.oz. = 25/24 av.oz. distilled water @ max.dens. 39.2 F

1 av.oz. = 1 fl.oz. of wine
1 av.oz. = 1.800 cu.in. of wine
1 av.oz. = 2.100 cu.in. of wheat
1 av.oz. = 2.250 cu.in. of leather
1 av.oz. = 1.728 cu.in. distilled water @ max.dens. 39.2 F
1 av.oz. = 24/25 fl.oz. distilled water @ max.dens. 39.2 F
1 av.oz. = 1/64 in. x 1 sq.ft. of leather

1 lr-oz. = 1/64 in.

So Bryan, what's it gonna be? All the same? Or all different?

1 av.oz. = 1/16 av.lb. = 437 1/2 gr.

I never posed that question. What I would say, though, is that I think a US pt should become exactly 1/60cuft, a UK pt 1/50cuft, and the adoption of my cupalm system.

'xcole' seems to post these long 'responses' simultaneously to the 'Metric Sucks' board; no one seems to know what he is 'responding' to over there, either. (The voices in his head?)

I see that my posting says that it has been edited by the moderators. I can not see any change, however, and I would like to know why this has occurred.

I hope you are not defending 'xcole'. In my opinion, he is the only poster I have seen here who truly should be banned. His meaningless posts make all advocated of traditional measures look bad.

Andrew, what are your thoughts on English system reform?

I am assuming 'B Parry' is 'Bryan Parry'.

I believe I have expressed my views on reform in previous posts but will summarise again. I do not support any new definitions of units. I do believe we should agree on one English system that (as I just mentioned in the other thread) should use US measures of weight but UK measures of capacity. I have also supported using sexagesimal division, in particular, the pace of 60 inches and mile of 1,000 paces.
