Florence to Franklin:
"We're going to have to learn the metric system, Franklin"
"By the time we grow up, the metric system will probably be official..."
"One inch is 2.54 centimetres; one foot is 0.3048 metres, and one mile is 1.609 kilometres..."

Franklin to Florence:
"I'll never measure anything again as long as I live!"

As far as I am aware, Shultz, the editor of Peanuts died several years ago and the ones shown now are repeats of old ones. |

The joke is quite funny and I laugh at it along with everyone else.
But joking aside I can share Franklin's despair and frustration.
I don't look forward to a world where we are expected to cope with inches, cm, feet, km and miles all at the same time.

REPLY: Franklin's pessimism about his ability to cope with metric units could be dispelled by one sentence from the American President: "The United States is not going to go metric - period"

Can any US president guarantee this for all time given that they can only exist in that office for a maximum of 8 years?

Who says the President was guaranteeing it? |

Tony's remark that such a statement from the US president would allay the fears of Franklin clearly implied this.
