"You Can't Get a Gallon into a Half Pint Pot"

November 21 2003 at 9:52 AM

-
"You can't get a gallon into a half pint pot" was an extract from a speech by a Liberal Democrat MP making the point that the government was to blame for legislative congestion, resulting in their attempting to get two major and controversial Bills through the Commons and the Lords in a day. It was reported in 'Yesterday in Parliament on the 'Today' programme today.

Along with a clear warning of 'two inches of rain' to come in the next 24 hours (no metric equivalent given), and news of '150-foot wind turbines' (again, no metric equivalent mentioned).

A contrast to the electronic message that was flashed across screens in London many years ago, claiming simply: "Britain is metric"

True for the moment, but the EU is currently working on EC Directive 03/EEC/2856456A-45-B/8 which makes it illegal for a gallon to refuse to go into a half-pint pot.

The gallon and half-pint pot are also to be outlawed by directive 03/EEC/2856456A-B/9 (Destruction of non-Metric units Regulations, 2003).

I know, I was watching it at the time. I thought Eric Forth was quite entertaining.

Sure you can. Just change the density.
