Dear xcole,

Might I respectfully suggest that you may like to include a topic about Steve Thoburn and his campaign to save the lb. and oz. on your website.

Wot??? xcole, I never said that. What are you going on about, man?

You gave the freezing and boiling points of all temperatures scales respectively (barring the absolute ones, ofcourse), but yet gave Fahrenheit as 0 and 320, as I recall. What are you saying to me, I simply do not understand. I don't understand much of your site, either.

Dear Tony,

I’m sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Thoburn. Thanks for letting me know.

http://www.weights-and-measures.com is just a copy of an old book, with various penciled additions.

I am thinking of creating another site, but I would hesitate putting on second rate information about Mr. Thoburn, if there is better information elsewhere. Of course I could put up straight copy from another site, but I would have to get permission first.

Tony, as you and I have discussed before, I cannot possibly see how common weights & measures can be abolished/''disappeared'', unless every major civilization in the world is razed to the ground beforehand.

Attempts to replace common weights & measures with something else, before at least one of the world’s major civilizations is destroyed, must fail upon the principle of the cart before the horse.

Tony, I cannot predict the future, but for now my view is that at the end of time, mankind will still be using the fluid ounce, avoirdupois ounce, arc second, time second, and statute square chain.

As you have pointed out, some people are promoters of non-common weights & measures.

If the promoters are genuine experimenters, leave them alone. Even if they don’t come up with something good that they want, they may well come up with something good that they don’t want.

If the promoters are stupid, well, they are just a burden that we must always bear.

If the promoters are evil, yes, I agree that our duty is to always fight evil where ever it lurks. However their pretended destruction of common weights & measures is just a smokescreen, they must have some other object. Because they know common weights & measures are one of the foundations of civilization, and they cannot get rid of that foundation without first destroying the civilization built on top of it.
