Bush the Elder and Offical Use of Metric UnitsMarch 23 2004 at 8:04 PM | Tony Bennett |

" Actually, it was Bush the Elder that signed an executive order requiring federal agencies to use metric units. This meant that state and local agencies using federal funds also had to use metric units"

Yes, but this was one of the weakest pieces of federal legislation ever passed.
It required all agencies to submit a report at certain intervals explaining their progress in converting to the metric system. I'm not sure if there were any penalties for not converting fast enough. It also allowed exceptions for any time that metric units would cause confusion to the public (I'm not sure what the exact wording was, but that was the effect). This exempted most areas in which imperial had already been established. |

Father and son's legacy of unfinished tasks keeps growing. Father signed the executive metrication order, but forgot to finish the war in Iraq. The son finished the war in Iraq sort of, but forgot to enforce his fathers executive order.

And you, dear fellow, forgot to attain a sense of humour.
Actually, scrap the words "of humour". | |
