Bryan,

''Do you have any information regarding the leather trade unit of the iron, its' origins, its' name, and so forth?''
Bryan, its' 1/12#, supposedly the smallest weight made out of iron.
Leaf weights made out of brass range from 1/7680# to 1/8#
Cylinder weights made out of brass range from 1/320# to 256#
Flat weights made out of brass range from 1/320# to 8#.
Flat weights made out of iron range from 1/4# to 8#.
Bell weights made out of brass range from 1/256# to 16#.
Bell weights made out of iron range from 1/4# to 16#.
Bull-ring weights made out of brass range from 1/16# to 1#.
Bull-ring weights made out of iron range from 1/4# to 16#.
Brick weights made out of iron range from 32# to 256#.
There is no such thing as 1 avoirdupois iron, as it doesn't fit into the usual halving & doubling of the avoirdupois system, and so the words ''avoirdupois iron'' and ''iron-length'' are not used.
I have seen 1 av. jill iron weights, and 1 av. jill brass weights. And I have seen 1 av. jack brass weights. But I have never seen a 1 av. iron iron weight, or 1 av. iron brass weight, or 1 av. iron weight of anything.
A 1 av. iron weight doesn't exist, but if it did exist, it would probably be made out of brass, not iron, following the practice of only making weights of less than 1 av. jill out of brass only.
1 bcn. is 1/12 of size 1 child's shoe U.S.
Although 1 av. iron doesn't exist, 1 av. iron is 1/12 av.lb. leather.
Although 1 iron-lth. doesn't exist, 1 iron-lth. is 3''''.
12 x 1'' = 12'' = size 12 adult's shoe U.S.
12 x 4''' = 4'' = size 1 child's shoe U.S.
12 bcn. = size 1 child's shoe U.S.
12 irons x 1 sq.' = 1/48 cu.' = 36 cu.'' = 1 av.lb. leather
1 iron x 1 sq.' = 1/576 cu.' = 3 cu.'' = 1/12 av.lb. leather
3'''' x 1 sq.' = 3 cu.'' = 1/12 av.lb. leather
16 lr.oz. x 1 sq.' = 1/48 cu.' = 36 cu.'' = 1 av.lb. leather
1 lr.oz. x 1 sq.' = 1/768 cu.' = 2 1/4 cu.'' = 1 av.oz. leather
1/64'' x 1 sq.' = 2 1/4 cu.'' = 1 av.oz. leather
Bryan, ''ironman'' means dollar (1$) or crown (5s.). Taking the 1 av.oz. sterling crown as the standard, then ''ironman'' is the same as ''leather-ounce''. But on the basis that 5s. is 1/4£, a few claim the following:
1 ironman = 9'''' = 3/4''' = 1/16'' = 1/192'
1 ironman = 3 irons = 4 lr.oz.
1 ironman x 1 sq.' = 9'''' x 1 sq.' = 9 cu.'' leather
1 ironman x 1 sq.' = 5 fl.oz. leather = 4 av.oz. leather = 1 av. jill leather
I disagree, but whatever your point of view, an ''ironman'' is not an ''iron''.
