Okay, I just went to the UKIP site to check out the forums.. and I can't find them. Does anyone know where they are, or have UKIP taken them down?

UKIP Forums

Sorry, Bryan, as a Party member I can't answer your question; the forums may indeed have been removed. There certainly *was* a forum dealing with weights and measures when I used to head up UKIP's 'Guard the Yard' campaign (back in 2001)

Sadly, the UKIP site is not that easy to navigate and the material on it is a bit of a curate's egg

Indeed, it is tricky to navigate. I want to know if the forum/message boards are stil up. If anyone here finds them, please tell me here. cheers :)

I've had a look around and could not find any.

Send them a complaint!

I watched the '79 election on BBC parliament yesterday.
It was very weird as they replayed it as if it were live.
I was visualising myself campaigning on behalf of Margaret Thatcher.

On the playground of the Emmbrook Junior School, Wokingham!

I was amazed at how much airtime the NF got and that it was treated as a serious 4th party.

"You have one right here under your noses"

It can be hazarous to mix different batteries.

Like mixing euroscepticism with a preference for imperial measures!

Political logic?

May 5 2004, 11:43 PM

The following mathematically stated logic never fails:

Anti-metric ==> Anti-EU

Pro-metric =/=> Pro-EU

Pro metric is equal to or greater than or equal to pro-EU?

I think that "=/=>" is a representation of an arrow that is crossed out - in other words it means "does not imply".

In that case, he is talking rubbish, because anti-EU does not necessarily equate to being anti-metric.

That's not what he's saying. The arrow is pointing in the other direction.

My mathematical logic

May 7 2004, 11:25 PM

OK Steve,

Sorry for any confusion folks.

Martin is correct.

==> is my pure text version of the logical relation 'implies',
i.e.

A ==> B means IF A THEN B.

A =/=> B means NOT (IF A THEN B)

Now to respond to Bud I need to explain something.

My definition of Anti-metric is someone who is not sympathetic to the idea of using metric exclusively, in other words either condemns metric outright or maintains that non-metric should co-exist with metric.

On this basis I stand by my propositions, unless someone can show a counter-example.

I am anti-metric but not necessarily anti-EU. Although I am against some of the things the EU is doing, I think that it is in general a good concept.
There's your counterexample.

Acquis Communitaire

May 10 2004, 8:54 AM

re: "Although I am against some of the things the EU is doing, I think that it is in general a good concept".

REPLY: Bud, many people think that the coming together of the European nations is a good idea and may help to prevent future wars etc. Mind you, the proposals for European integration are driven by France and Germany, who have three times in the past 200 years started wars to attempt to conquer Europe. No wonder we Brits are sceptical about the Euro project.

One key feature of European Union law is the 'acquis communitaire'. This means that when the E.U. acquires power over a particular matter - e.g. agriculture, fishing, environment, the economy, defence, foreign policy etc. - it keeps it *forever*. The Treaty of Rome and other E.U. Treaties constantly speak of 'ever-closer integration'. This can only mean one ultimate conclusion - a Euro-state with the nations having no power left to themselves. The proposed European Constitution takes this process a massive stage further and has many provisions allowing the E.U. to finalise the integration process

Hold on a moment!

May 10 2004, 12:16 PM

"Anti-metric is someone who is not sympathetic to the idea of using metric exclusively, in other words either condemns metric outright or maintains that non-metric should co-exist with metric"

Eh?

So I'm "anti metric"?

I believe that black people should co-exist with white people.

I guess that makes me a racist then!

Also...

May 10 2004, 12:20 PM

I'm anti-fox hunting.

Hmmm, but I'd have to agree with foxhunting areas alongside non-foxhunt areas to believe that.

So what do I do now?

Summary - How *ON EARTH* can one be 'anti-' something that one might choose to use for oneself? That's daft! A sort of logical masochism.

Eric's response was more than predictable - I mean, he's the old fella that ACTUALLY BELIEVES that you cannot know imperial and metric at the same time!

Re: UKIP Forums????

You're anti-fox hunting, Steve? That is all of my respect for you shot :p

Black&White

May 10 2004, 7:54 PM

Are some of you viewing life as if it were a black and white film?? Even those have shades of grey. My point is that few things in politics are clearly defined. Is someone who uses imperial, but believes it is ok to teach both systems in school anti imperial? What about those who are pro EU, is that to say that all pro EU supporters want imperial eradicated? clearly there are exceptions to every rule, and that most issues are more complicated than just black and white, or yes and no.

My only left-wing admission

May 11 2004, 1:19 PM

"You're anti-fox hunting, Steve? That is all of my respect for you shot"

Sorry mate - it's true.

My only left-wing "tendancy". You'll have to forgive me.

However, I'm a moderate. I can see the issues but I still have a hatred of cruelty of that sort. I also hate those bigots on the "hunt sab" side. Sometimes they're enough to make me want to be "pro-hunting".

Also I cannot stand seeing groups calling for the spaniards to stop bullfighting when we're still doing that in our country.

Can't these people carry out their "sport" without the need to tear a fox apart limb-from-limb while its still alive?

Can't they do drag hunts?

OR is there no way of humanely killing the fox and then letting the hounds "have there fun" (yes, I understand that the fox population must be controlled, but perhaps without the cruelty and unnecessary pain).

Ooops!
Off topic!

P.S. I refuse to get involved with that 'Grand National' thing too.

Bryan: "D'Oh!"

Fox Hunting

Bryan Parry,

>You're anti-fox hunting, Steve? That is all of my respect for you shot :p

Do we take it from this that you Mr Parry are in favour of the mindless pusuit of an animal by hungry hounds for the dubious please of insensitive horseback riders?
