So, this is the new range of hubba-bubba. What a peculiar choice. Doesn't sit well with the "yard rope"- thin three-foot long lengths of red liquorice- likewise available at most newsagents.
6ft of candy sounds a lot more natural (and more realistic to the avg brit). However certain "others" are better then the average Brit and thus can see the benefit in saying it in catchy centimetres (!)
This excellent minority help run our lives

For Christ's sake, why not "2 metres" ? Or "your dad's height in candy" ?

Because it's not?
It's 180cm - loosely translated from 6 feet because we in the UK would not understand "6 feet" as we are a "Metric country"

Earth calling Planet Imperial !
THIS PRODUCT IS AIMED DIRECTLY AT KIDS !
Your average 6-10 year old kid in the UK knows exactly what a centimetre looks like because that's what he's come across at school.
A lot of these kids may know what a foot looks like but for the majority the centimetre will be the more familiar unit of measurement.
And besides, it's a marketing hook.
Ask a child which he would prefer, six of something or one hundred and eighty of something else. What do you think the answer would be ?

And the word "centimetres" has more syllables than "inches" or "feet," making it more exciting for kids to say.

To E.E. there are plenty of toys out there that go against what you say.
Only recently I say a 2 foot frizbee and a soft pellet gun thing that could fire them "over 100 feet".
Dammit! These toys are so tempting even to a "grown up" like me (don't say a word!!)
Don't underestimate what kids learn from the street, their parents, their peer group and from the national curriculum when it comes to imperial.
Don't believe me? Just *ask* a kid.

My kids, or those who are old enough to understand, use British measurements a lot. They all haveeeeee B.W.M.A. rulers too, as well as the school ones!.
They know six feet when they see it.

Of course I meant I fully agree with your notion - I don't agree with the exploitation element.
Hope that clears that one up!!!
