Collegiate Football

Deranged,

Regarding your question of March 30th @ 10:50 p.m.
__

Firstly, Tony which foot are you referring to? O’Reef’s COMMON LAW OF COMMON WEIGHTS & COMMON(???) MEASURES states: “To get an idea of the confusion of Common Weights & Common Measures, it is only necessary to look at the common linear measure of the foot used by various peoples for various purposes in the Dominion of England and Dominion of Britain immediately prior to the reign of King Edward I.”

1. The 12” foot was used for hellenic building.

2. The 12” foot was used for romanic building.

3. The 9” span was used for british, aryan, miniasian, coptic, sumaric, hellenic, and numibian surveying.

4. The 12” foot was used for saxon surveying & building. The 12” foot only originated 5000 yr. ago in the Free State of Bengal, and eventually only extended to the Duchy of Iceland. The saxons kept the 12” foot through all downheavals & all upheavals. In those bad yesterday old days, land was the most important form of property and any change in its’ measure was resisted by hand-gun & sword.

Tony, I would (do???) agree that the 12” foot goes backward well & goodly beyond evenly 390 B.C. (1610 yr. ago???, 5000 yr. ago???, 6000 yr. ago???)

However, Tony the common linear measure 12” foot is the same as the common linear measure 12” foot for molmutine surveying & building, but nothing else, as that 12” foot & the other 12” foot are of different lengths.

Secondly, Tony which .........???

Thirdly, Tony which .........???

Fourthly, Tony which .........???

Fifthly, Tony which .........???

Sixthly, Tony which .........???

Seventhly, Tony which .........???

Eighthly, Tony which .........???
___

Deranged, hello. It’s me. Hi, hello, it’s me, xcole, hello, hello, hello, hi, how are you? Thanks for all your information on the 1728’’’’ foot & 144’’’ foot & 12” foot.

I have a wood 12” ruler. I have a plastic 12” ruler that is longer than my wood 12” ruler. My neighbour has a wood 12” ruler that is shorter than my plastic 12” ruler. My neighbour has a plastic 12” ruler that is longer than his wood 12” ruler. My sister has a wood 12” ruler that is shorter than my neighbour’s plastic 12” ruler. My sister has a 12” plastic ruler that is longer than her wood 12” ruler. My brother has a wood 12” ruler that is shorten than my sister’s plastic 12” ruler. My brother has a plastic 12” ruler that is longer than his wood 12” ruler.

Deranged, I only have two petty little questions. Could you possibly take the time out of your very very very very busy day, to answer them?

QUESTION #1
Why is the 12” foot all over the world always a different length?

QUESTION #2
Why is the 12” foot all over the world always the same length?

He is special isn't he.

I especially like the mental image of Saxons using handguns.

QUESTION #1
Why is the 12” foot all over the world always a different length?

Various reasons. Inaccurate manufacturing processes, expansion of measures due to temperature change. The same applies to metre sticks.

QUESTION #2
Why is the 12” foot all over the world always the same length?

The definition of 12" (1/3 of 0.9144 metres = 0.3048 metres) remains constant.

Xcole

Just two questions right back at you (as I believe they say in the USA)

1) What has the title of your post got to do with the rest of it?

2) Will you please send Tony some more messages of support - he really needs them?

Tony Bennett

Come on, xcole, what about 'The Compleat History of the Yard'?

REPLY: You call that message of xcole one of support?

He never even *mentioned* the yard

Very droll Tony!

He does seem to like you more than he likes me though!

I thought that "However, Tony the common linear measure 12” foot is the same as the common linear measure 12” foot for molmutine surveying & building" was supporting you, but can see why you wish to distance yourself from his views!

I feel the same way about some of the pro-mets - I'm sure you know who!

Martin, can you provide examples? And remember, the US survey foot is used only by surveyors, who usually don't play football.

Bud - Yes

Please visit http://home.fonline.de/fo0126/geschichte/groessen/mas8.htm. It gives an list of measurements that were in use in 1842.

Answer for Andy

April 4 2005, 1:08 PM

If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?

Andy,

I don't think that these are Alice's [Liddell] own words, but rather words attributed to her by Charles Dodgson.

Martin, you said "is", not "was". The word "is" implies the present day, not 1842.

Bud,

If you check the first posting in thei threas you will see that it refers to both ancient and modern measures which is why I gave a reference that included both past and present measures.

LOL! A common tactic!

Now where's my perch?

I looked through the site you provided, Martin, using the altavista translator as a guide. I determined that there were several definitions of the inch in Germany in the 1800s, but I couldn't find anything indicating that this is true today. If the site says this, I probably didn't figure it out since I don't know much German, so could you point it out?

Re: Collegiate Football

April 6 2005, 8:12 AM

The original posting refered to many different 12-inch feet in bygone days. I stated that each had its own inch. Of course, all the countries with these various feet apart from the UK and the US now use metric units and have therefore discarded their different feet and inches

Well, including this posting, the scores are, in order:

martin 5

Beranger - 3
Tony Bennett - 3
Alice - 3

Andy - 2
Steve H - 2
Bud - 2

xcole - 1
anonymous - 1.

Hey, there's nearly enough for a 6-a-side football match to be arranged between the Imperialists and the metricists (with an 8-foot high crossbar, a six-yard box and, no doubt, 'inch-perfect crosses'*)

* These measurements and terms are shortly to be replaced - U.K. Metric Association and European Union joint statement, issued by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister on the orders of the Metrology Harmonisation Section, Brussels

Wouldn't it?

WTF!

That box at the top of the page is meant to show an advert someway related to a post or group of posts here.

So why did I just see "Gay Friends International"?

Now I'm worried!

When I hit reply, "poof", it had disappeared!

Great idea.

I like to pin-point my crosses to an accuracy of more like a centimetre, so you'd better watch out..

ooooh, mmmm, nice, eh?

Beranger

Which type of football??????

April 7 2005, 12:56 AM

OK

I'm up for it!

But can we play 7 a side?

And can the ball be:

Length in line....................... 280 to 300 mm
Circumference (end on)............... 760 to 790 mm
Circumference (in width)............. 580 to 620 mm
Weight............................... 400 to 440 g

And can the goal be

3 meters is taken from the ground to the top edge of the crossbar, and 5.60 meters inside to inside of the goal posts

And I want to play at tight head prop - not "centre-forward"!

And I've never kicked a penalty or conversion in my life! The backs do that!

And what's an o.g. (?????????)

:-) :-) :-) :-)

I'd figured, Bud! Everyone has their "style" !

Tony: "REPLY: And who saw the Labour Party press conference today, with its shocking pink background and Tony's ever-so-slightly fluorescent tie?"

Doesn't surprise me these days - the front bench has been populated with gays (totally out of line with the UK's make-up) and how many laws have been passed to placate the gay lobby?

Right, I fancy a hotdog.

'Sauce' anyone?
