The Future of BWMA (and English W&M)

Hello there, not all of you will know me. I used to be a regular poster here, but have long since given up on this board. Why? Well, there really is so much one can say on the whole metrication issue before one's treading over old ground for the fifteenth time or so.

I am a "young" person. Having celebrated my 21st birthday last week, and being a British university student, I am slab-dab in the middle of the so-called "metric generation" demographic.

But I am a member of the British Weights and Measures Association.

This morning, thru the post, I got a letter from the BWMA asking me to renew my membership if I so cared. And so, despite my loss of interest in this board now, and the fact that I think metrication is inevitable and not the burning issue some others here may claim it to be, I **AM** going to renew my membership first thing monday morning. I do this because 1.Metrication is wrong, 2. Metrication is unneeded, 3. Metrication is another symptom of the insanity of the control-freakery of the state in our time.

So, to conclude, I wish all old-tmers and new-comers on this board well, and I hope very much that folks like Tony Bennet (not withstanding others people, too) continue to do their good work.

Cheers,
Bryan

...........and the fact that I think metrication is inevitable.....

So why fight a losing battle? This will only make it more difficult for you to function in life. You will have to work in metric on the job. That means a working knowledge of metric. Trying to work in imperial in a metric world is only going to insure that you will always be a few steps behind.

You will always have to deal with metric in the economy. Buy metric sized goods, read metric in articles, hear metric in the news and weather, etc. What is there now will never go away and what has not yet changed will change eventually. Not because of some law, but because of industry. You can campaign to abolish the WMA so that it can't be used to enforce metrication, or at least the final completion of it, but you can't stop the billions of euros, dollars, pounds, etc. from being spent on designing, engineering, producing and marketing metric only products.

Eventually you will tire of trying to stay one or two steps behind those who have moved forward.

*Advises Daniel to look up Germanic mythology and the idea of fighting the unwinnable battle and the concept of glory in losing when what you fight for is just... *

BTW, Daniel, having grown up predominately in the 90s, I am VERY capable in both Imperial and metric. :)
