Clive Efford MP on Metrication of Britain's Road Signs

Tony Bennett

Labour MP Clive Efford (Eltham, London), wrote this (26 September 2002) to one of his constituents:

"Thank you for your recent letter regarding the metrication of road signs. You ask me to comment on a plan to spend '£1 billion or more to convert our road signs to metric'.

As I stated in my last letter to you there is no such plan, no announcements have been made, no money allocated and no date has been set for road signs to go metric.

I am afraid I cannot comment on a plan that does not exist".
