NEWS JUST IN
One of our spotters, driving around a new housing estate in south-east England, currently still under construction, was amazed to see a series of large speed-limit signs, on the main road through the estate, in the usual Department of Transport traffic sign mode for speed restriction signs, each reading *19* mph (i.e. black numbers on white roundels with red circle on the outside).
Our spotter asked local workmen if this was for real. One of them said: "Yes, that is the speed limit". Another wag said: "They've only done it so they can get even more money from speeding fines". Not one of them knew the real reason.
Enquiries are in hand with the development company and the local Council about who has erected them and why - and we'll post more details here when we get them.
The most likely scenario is that some official thinks he has to introduce a speed limit of 30 km/h. This converts in m.p.h. to 18.64, which makes it a reasonable working assumption that this may have been 30 km/h rounded up to 19.
Whatever the reason for them, those bizarre signs are a collector's item! - and probably illegal since it seems that the development company may have erected them without Council permission.
Photos have been taken.
Anyone else who can solve this mystery in the meantime, please do so!

So, I see you're extending your definition of "Signs that should be removed" from the ones you can't fathom to the ones you find uncomfortable.

So is 19 allowed under the TSRAGD?
This is where the process begins, the question is how long it will take before it ends. |
