Changes to Signs on A10 at Foxton Bring Total Demetrications to 2,069

-
An ARM operation last night by road works on the A10 just east of Foxton level crossing on the A10 between Royston and Cambridge, similar to the one in Kent in 2001 that brought charges of criminal damage, converted six illegal metric distance signs to road works, namely 2 x '800 MTR', 2 x '600 MTR' and 2 x '400 MTR', back to legal yards - and so brought the total number of signs known to have been demetricated in the U.K. to 2,069.

The operatives were able to adjourn to the White Horse, Foxton, nearby, for hot Cajun Chicken and Braughing Sausage* baguettes, whilst the white paint dried, enabling the 'yds' black lettering to be affixed to replace the illegal 'MTR' a couple of hours later.

[*Braughing is a charming Hertfordshire village about 10 miles north of Ware, with a ford in the middle of it across one of its main roads, famous locally for the superb flavour of its sausages, which are usually sold at local butchers by the lb.)

I'm sure it still is - unless that comment was purely personal?
