Department for Transport Illegalities in Northern Ireland

Seen on the roads from (a) Londonderry to Coleraine and (b) Enniskillen to Ballinamallard: two very large yellow-white-and-black Department for Transport signs warning of roadworks ahead in '800m'.

It's bad enough Councils illegally erecting metric distance signs, but when a Government Ministry does it, who's to blame?

Tony,

What legislation makes the signs that you mentioned illegal? May I remin dyou that the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984 (and hence TERGD 2002) onl apply to England, Scotland and Wales.

This can be demonstrated by searching for the words "England", [Northern] "Ireland", "Scotland" and "Wales" on the text of the TSRGD 2002.

Doesn't English law apply in Ulster?

Steve,

The final clause of the 1984 Road Traffics Regulations Act states

"This Act does not apply to Northern Ireland".

I don't know the reason, but then Irish Constitutional History is a very complex subject

Not as complex as my other question though

;-)

SteveH, I think you have asked your question enough. If he doesn't want to answer it, he has every right not to. Stop bringing it up, it's really getting old now.

I'm surprised.

Considering you entertained eric(metre)'s posts which constantly constantly constantly recycled the same old questions over and over again, why can't I ask a basically simple and "realistic" question like this?

If I were him I'd show some pride about being a member of UKMA. I'm proud to be a member of BWMA.

Apparently eric still hasn't found a store selling monitors descibed solely in metric, btw.

Well, at least eric's posts had some element of humour to them.

Oooh! Now that hurt.

That hurt bad.

Oh hang on....

That was a p**s-take of eric.

Hmm, now I'm confused - should I be sad or happy?
