"Walk 1.6km in my shoes" was the title of a very prominent article - with photographs of two ARM operatives in action - on page 2 of this week's 'Ham and High Gazette', which covers north London. The article featured ARM's successful amendment of four fingerpost signs with a total of 17 illegal metric distances on them.
The article includes a quote from a Haringey Council spokeswoman about the erection of their illegal signs. "We were only trying to be modern", she said defensively.
As always, we appreciate the support of Andy and others on this board for our action
I have been notified that the (left-wing) 'Ham and High Gazette' published the following editorial in the same edition that featured ARM's latest operations against illegal metric signage.
P.S. As always, ARM is proud of its ability to, quote, 'raise a smile'*
"The so-called metric warriors who have put signs along a popular Haringey walk with old-fashioned mileage on them are indicative of Britain's reluctance to fully embrace the European common ideal.
"Although it is a light-hearted stunt, it reveals the lengths (excuse the pun) to which some people will go to in order to reject the metric system.
"Some greengrocers still proudly offer weight measurements in pounds alongside kilos to remind us that we are British after all.
"These are only token demonstrations but they raise a smile nonetheless and remind us why pro-Europe Ken Clarke may have a problem in his Tory leadership bid"
* "Raise a smile??!! The 'Ham and High' Editor speaks for himself!!" Signed: Beranger, metre, Daniel Jackson, JohnS-MI, Stan, Robin Paice, Lord Geoffrey Howe, Roz Denny and 'woof woof'
* P.S. 'I fully approve of ARM's latest operation' - Andy

For a while,I was worried about you getting lost in Euros and spans of bridges, but that effort shows that you haven't lost you humour. Good on you!

REPLY: Your concern is much appreciated. You're not getting lost in euros yourself, are you?

Nice little "calm down" effort after the latest drubbing from pro-metrics on this board.
Poor thing!
Tony - do you believe he's human after all?
