Excellent result in Ecton, Northamptonshire

Council of Active Resistance to Metrication

Residents of and visitors to the pretty village of Ecton in Northamptonshire, a few miles east of the County Town, will no longer be bemused by a prominent sign on the highway in the centre of the village which read: "No entry ahead in 100 metres".

Erected in 1992, this illegal sign has now been removed by supporters of ARM and Northamptonshire County Council has been informed.

It may be recalled that ARM's campaign of removing illegal metric road signs began with the removal of 18 illegal metric 'road hump' signs in June 2001 from locations in the town of Northampton. The signs were unceremoniously dumped in a hedgerow several miles away and subsequently retrieved by Council staff after the Northampton Chronicle and Echo were informed.

Today the signs are in legal yards, not illegal metres
