Windsor Great Park success - 500 metre signsFebruary 13 2001 at 6:53 PM | BWMA |
| - Recent message from E Huxley, regarding a 5OO metre sign on the A30, inside the railings of Windsor Great Park, but facing road traffic.
"Wrote to the Deputy Ranger (the Duke of Edinburgh is the Chief Ranger) and after a couple of letters he replied saying he had spoken to their legal department and as a result would have the sign changed". |

Edward Huxley wrote to the Deputy Ranger drawing his attention to the illegal sign. The Deputy Ranger replied that he did not think it was in breach of any regulations: "...after quickly speaking to our solicitors, the Crown Estate is not actually breaching any laws, as the sign is private and therefore not subject to the traffic regulations to which you refer".
However, Mr Huxley argued that while the sign is "private", the Great Park itself probably could not be called private land: "clearly it is a traffic sign and is intended to be". The ranger conceded and stated that he is, "arranging for the sign to be changed to yards in the near future". |
