Herefordshire - illegal road works signsJune 20 2001 at 6:32 PM | David Delaney |
| - The following letter, dated June 6th 2001, has been written by Councillor David Delaney to the Divisional Engineer of Herefordshire Council:
ILLEGAL ROAD SIGNS ON B4529, LEOMINSTER TO EARDISLAND
This letter is to inform you that there are illegal road signs on the works on the B4529 from Leominster to Eardisland. The warning signs to the road works give distances in metres instead of imperial yards.
Under the 1994 Traffic Signs Regulations it is not lawful to use signs that show distances in metres or kilometres. This applies to both road traffic signs and pavement signs for pedestrians.
I would be grateful if you would observe the law on this matter and arrange for imperial signs to be installed quickly. This will avoid the danger of confusion and distraction to road users who are overwhelmingly in favour of retaining our traditional measures wherever possible. |

Following my protest about metric road signs used by contractors in Herefordshire, I received the following reply from the Divisional Surveyor (North) Mr T E Davies:
"We have taken this matter up with our contractors and also statutory undertakers representatives in an effort to ensure that current regulations are complied with." |
