You may have seen the 'Daily Mail' report today (26 June) which showed the first-ever road sign displaying distancs in kilometres. It said: 'Stoke Newington 0.5km, Stamford Hill 3.0km, and Tottenham 4.5km'.
UKIP has a developing 'Metric Rapid Reaction Force'. It operated earlier tonight and I am pleased to announce on BWMAOnline that the offending kilometres have been well and truly painted out (with _two_ coats of exterior white gloss paint - quick drying weather right now!). The substituted figures on the sign (we used black lettering of the right style and size) now read, respectively, '500 YDS', '2' and '3'.
The team had great support from the black and Asian locals. One black chap in his thirties shouted out 'Hey, painter man, we don't know no kilometres! We only know miles!'. This was borne out by our on-the-spot survey of lcoal opinion. Not one person had a clue what 0.5km and 4.5km was in miles or yards.
Please e-mail me here if other approaches are meeting with sluggish responses by the authorities and you would like the help of our Rapid Reaction Team.
