Somerset's chief weights & measures man suggests to shops that they have their imperial scales there for customers to weigh up on before the goods are costed on the metric scales.
My name is Leslie Harrison (Mr) During the past weeks I have been trying to get the local and police authorities to act to stop pirate goods being sold at Boot Sales in this area Somerset. At one Boot sale every sunday at least nine or ten seemingly seperate sellers are dealing in pirate products. These goods include software from Microsoft, such as XP office and other items like plus. Games from Soldier Of Fortune to Medal Of Honour. DVD's such as Spiderman, Videos Spiderman, Harry potter(THIS BEING ON SALE BEFORE! (AS IS ALWAYS THE CASE IT'S RELEASE DATE.) I know of one misguided person whi purchased 8 dvd's only to find that they would not play on their machine. Pirate playstation games and CD's are also sold. Prices range from £5 for a cd to £12 for software.
Apart from the moral wrong, my children purchased a copy of medal of honour It did not work and a copy of the Sims also it did not work.
I feel that these people are using thses funds from the illegal goods to fund Drugs, benefit fraud and probably other more serious crime.
The point is that on Sunday at the Winchester Farm site near Chedder in Somerset ten of these dealers were selling pirate goods of this nature. If each one was taking £1000 in sales that adds up to an incredible fraud. Nationwide £?,000,000 of goods resulting in unemployment and further crimes funded from these goings on. The generally public seem to perceive these activities as legitimate saving them money, which increases the cash flow to these gangs.
I have contacted Local trading standards and the Avon and Somerset constablulary. I have received a letter asking me to " allow them some time to liaise with local trading standards", They obviouslyintend to do nothing. I also phoned the number given on the original video and left my name and telephone number but have received no reply, the same with local councils and in fact the police.
The whole position is scandalous, firstly I beleibve I should be rewarded morally and financially for bringing this to the attention of the Authorities who seem only to willing to proceed against minor offences and car crime.
I emailed Microsoft and spoke to them by phone yet at this tyime nothing has been done
I have given the Registration of one of the vehicles to the Police. Yet nothing is done.
This is a National scandal.
Ok now for some names. Inspector Ian Smith on 01823 363744. Though I expect all you will get will be an answer phone. Other pirate goods of this exact same nature are being sold at Frome Market Standerwick and Brean Sands Boot sale, Winchester farm Boot Sale, Chedder.
It would not take much effort to arrange raids at the haunts of these piracy gangs to cease the material and stop these items being sold. This information could stop easily and readily over £50k's worth of sale every sunday, yet I find I am ignored and in fact have been treated in turn as if I am the criminal for reprting this crime.
Some years ago my neighbour tied my children then aged 3 or 4 up I reported this to the local police to be asked "did the man have an erection", no action was taken. It seems that a rule exisits in this community that some people are not able to be protected by law.
Maybe I can persude you to investigate and to help stop this scandalous behavior by a corrupt and inactive police force and local trading standards office.
We are told that a zero tolerance plan is in place but these people are raking in a fortune whilst the Lawkeepers stand by.
They can not plead ignorance as I have brought this to their attention but still I can visit any Boot sale and watch pirated goods being openly sold. it disgusts me as it should you and the police who purport to uphold the law.
