HE REFUSED TO HAND OVER THE EQUIPMENT AND CONTACTED THE METRIC MARTYRS DEFENCE FUND. IT WAS POINTED OUT TO THE TRADING STANDARDS OFFICERS THAT THEIR ACTIONS COULD BE SEEN AS VEXATIOUS AS THE APPEAL WAS STILL PROCEEDING AND HAD NOT YET CONCLUDED.

THEY BACKED OFF TO SEEK ADVICE FROM PRINCIPLE TRADING STANDARDS OFFICER - DAVE DENNING TEL: 01492 575 213 - BUT WOULD RETURN SHORTLY TO CARRY OUT THEIR DUTY.

NEIL HERRON OF THE METRIC MARTYR DEFENCE FUND PUT MR DENNING ON NOTICE THAT MR OWEN WOULD REFUSE TO HAND OVER HIS EQUIPMENT AND THEREFORE AS IN SUNDERLAND, THEY WOULD REQUIRE A POLICE PRESENCE TO FORCE HIM TO DO SO.

The trading standards office has now indicated that it is to approach LACOTS for advice, the co-ordinating body for TSOs, before proceeding.

Forget it the games up. Get into the 21st century. We are metric not archaic! I bet he wants to preserve the Welsh language aswell!!!

The fastest growing language in the UK

Why is it bad to want to preserve Welsh? The French get to preserve their obsolete language, and it isn't nearly as pleasing to the ear as Welsh.

And honestly, need I remind you people that metric is the measuring system of the 18th century? The actual mass of the kilogram has been changed twice in the 20th century. I, for one, prefer a more stable and time-tested system.

May I remind you that the pound has changed as well. In the UK, it was most recently redefined (in 1963) as 0.45359237kg exactly.

Both systems have changed and evolved over the years.

Sorry, I should have provided more information. We don't care if the pound is slightly different. It makes no difference to me if I weigh 156.327 lbs or 156.325 lbs. The metricators often talk of how precise their measure is and that it is somehow more consistent than customary measures. I like to disabuse them of this notion at every opportunity.
