Dead board?

This message board seems to have died recently. Anyone still interested? Or are other countries just not important anymore?

It could just be that metrication is not an issue in most other countries in the world. Most of Europe and their colonies (apart from the UK) went metric before 1900 (Note - In 1900 Ireland was part of the UK).

Most of the Commonwealth (Apart from the UK) completed their metrication programs in the 1970's.

The rest of the world (apart form the US) adopted the metric system either in the late 1800's or early 1900's.

There are of course a few execptions to the generalisations that I have given - they are sufficiently few that they have been exhausted.

So here we go again - the UK is metric is it?

Be more specific!

Do you mean:

The state?
The country?
The people?
The law?

And which one is most important?

At least Martin didn't say, "96% of the world is metric".

Steve you mentioned four different components of the United Kingdom. Before I answer that one, which is the most important leg of yourt dining-room chair, the front left, the back left, the front right or the back right?

That statement is difficult to justify, unless yuo indicate how you measure the world. You could use:

1) surface area
2) land surface area
3) population
4) literate populaiton
5) GDP

Steve - if you re-read my posting, you will notice that I dealt with the UK in the first and second paragraphs. The last paragraph refers to countries that are outside Europe, that were not European colonies in 1900 and that were not members of the Commonwealth in 1970.

"And which one is most important?"

IMHO - the people.

Ididn't like your clever analogy BTW, too much like that book "1984"

Steve,

The people without law would equate to anarchy.
The law without the people is senseless.

Both need each other!

If different groups of people have different laws, then countries and/or states are needed to define where one law ends and the other starts.

I was talking about where state protection becomes state interference.

Just thought I'd see if I could stop the Re: Re: Re: Re: ... which appears to be an infinite sequence if no one bothers to type anything in the message title box.
