That was obviously "sanitised" for the benefit of the UK audience. Every South African publication that I have seen regarding water uses either litres or cubic metres. Furthermore, with the possible exception of the informal description of a person's height, almost every aspect of Soutrh African life uses metric measures or has a good reason not to do so. "Good reasons" (which are few and far between) include statements regarding the annual gold production where Troy ounces are used (onoy because that is the unit used on international markets) |
