I see you enjoy jousting.
Besides in the context of a sentence kilometre per hour is spot on"
Metre, you're right. I should just ignore the big palooka. But I can't help myself at times. Besides what else is there to do but enter the lists during the July school holidays (holiday hell) when the offspring and the wife aren't around to destroy your quieter moments.
This might interest you Metre as a musician. I just finished watching a late-night showing of an older British movie from 1961 called All Night Long, an interesting attempt to rework Othello in then contemporary times and set in the London jazz scene of the very early sixties. It lacked good cohesion as the story was pretty flimsy but this was in some way compensated by an excellent cast, including Patrick McGoohan, Richard Attenborough, and Keith Michell, and the appearances and playing of a ton of jazz greats from the immediate postwar decades and beyond: Dave Brubeck, Tubby Hayes, Charles Mingus, and John Dankworth among many others. A short film with the story and dialogue set against the almost continuous performance of some great modern jazz, which needless to say was the highlight of the show.
And of course as it was made in the early sixties everyone in it smoked heavily. Those were the days when people didn't let little things like lung cancer and heart disease get in the way of having a good time. I'd like a cigarette myself; in fact, I'd like several cigarettes. |
