"We are able to announce a tremendous addition to our pre-season programme with a home match, in the last week of July, with crack Rumanian club Steaua Bucharest.


Steaua, who won the European Cup defeating Terry Venables’ Barcelona in 1986 in Seville, are bringing their full squad, including several current Rumanian internationals, to Britain for a series of matches and we are privileged have been selected to be part of that programme.

The match, which will rekindle memories of the European Cup Winners Cup exploits of 1980-81, will be played at Newport Stadium on either Monday 29th July, or Tuesday 30th July with a 7.30 pm kick off. The actual date of the game will be confirmed in the next seven days.

Steaua Bucharest are by far the best known team in Rumania and their European success was the first for an Eastern European country in Europe’s premier tournament. They have won both their country’s league championship and cup more than twenty times apiece.

Previously the Rumanian Army team, they were formed in 1947, their best-ever player being Gheorghe Hagi who joined the club in 1987 having been on loan when, following their European Cup win, Steaua won the European Super Cup by defeating Dynamo Kiev."

Quite honestly mate we couldn't give a toss who you are playing but I bet our friendly with our neighbours Cambridge Utd will pull a bigger crowd.

Oh yeah, before i forget.....it's "ROMANIAN", not RUMANIAN...dummy.

.....and name a well known player who plays for Steaua at the moment, bet you can't, like I said, european minnows......can't say i'm impressed or thinking "I wish it was us playing Steaua". If your intention was to make anyone jealous i'm afraid you've failed.
