...but, I'll say it again:
Tennessee's football program has had no real LEADERSHIP since 1998 with Al Wilson as well as those he inspired on both sides of the ball during his tenure. EVERYBODY on the coaching staff is a reflection right now of Phillip Fulmer, not just in philosophy (which you need), but also in personality. There is no one on the sidelines or on the field that will demand attention, command respect, and LEAD this team with any FIRE. Phillip Fulmer is the total opposite personality-wise of former coach Johnny Majors. He was the balance for Johnny. Now Phil's in charge and there is no one getting in anybody's face demanding perfection. The team generally reflects the personality of the coaching staff; Al Wilson was an aberration. His passion for the game and for WINNING superceded everything else. I don't mean to make Al sound like a Messiah, but compared to what we've had since he left... well, he sure seemed to be just that.
Does anybody on this team or staff really want to step it up?
"I mean, hey, as long as we are recruiting well... we can just sit on our duffs, go 9-3 and collect our paychecks or look to the NFL payday. Gee, is it worth putting yourself in a position of blame or of risking a career ending injury in order to beat the Floridas, Georgias, and LSU's? My goodness, there are about 100 other teams every year in Div. 1A that dream about accomplishing someday what we achieve every year. Dang.. think about it.... Playing mediocre isn't so bad as long as you're finishing in the top 25 every year, is it?"
Something stinks here... smells like something died. I can only hope our TEAM's winning attitude is resurrected soon... or else, 10-2 and 9-3 will become 7-5 and 6-6.
Go VOLS!!! Please.
