I want to first say I am not in favor of canning John Chavis by any stretch, his defenses have been the strong point on UT teams for years, he does however have a H U G E problem this year. Is this defense real young? I am serious I don't know because they play like they are handicapped. I see Three glaring problems in this "D" 1) They are just not that aggressive in getting to the ball and making tackles, they play passive. 2) They do not get off blocks, lineman, backers, secondary, look at any play and you will see everyone is locked up on somebody, thats why there is no tackiling until 5-9 yards down the field on every play, also I know you have seen that it seems like there is 3 offensive guys for every defensive guy because everyone is being blocked or staying on their blocks. 3) The secondary which has been a sore spot for years even when the defense was good the secondary was the weak link in it. This year they are atrocious, notice how the d-backs never turn to make a play on the ball the 3rd and 26 play comes to mind, but over and over. They are seldom in psition to make a pass break-up or tackle at least against quality competition, and they got blocked down feild all night- corners were terrible, at least when it counted. I agree with the other post I don't think AU tried to score in the second half they called off the dogs and tried to run out the clock. well that is another of my assessments of this team. still love them and will be watching hoping for the best but unless we do something really different I think we have seen what we have to deal with for the rest of the year. P.S. WHERE IS EVERYBODY! |
