Vols vs Dawgs

I am truly looking forward to this coming Saturday. My brother and I are having a friend (and fan of the Dawgs) over to our place for the game. Last year's match-up was a classic with the Dawgs jumping out to an early lead only to have our Vols take 'em to the woodshed in the second half. I'm hoping we can break Mark Richt's string of victories over the Vols in Knoxville. They have won the last 3 at Neyland Stadium. That needs to end Saturday.

Our defense is mediocre to unpredictable at best, but our offense has gotten some consistency as of late. The two most important things we lack on offense right now is a more productive rushing game and a WR with game-breaking speed. Kenny O'Neal was supposed to be that threat but has only gotten into a couple of games. He ran a reverse for 2 yards and caught a pass for 10 yards in the Arkansas State game. If we can execute a deep pass play to one of our faster receivers just once in that Georgia game, it could make a big difference in the success of the rest of our offensive game plan including the rushing game. Otherwise, Georgia will put 8 in the box and dare us to throw all game long. Short pass plays won't go very far to change that strategy... unless, of course, Lucas Taylor can pull off some more Meachem like plays with major YAC like he did against Arkansas State. He made a very acrobatic catch early in that game and later shook off a defender for the long run into the endzone. Georgia is talented but also young on experience in their secondary. We need to exploit that. As for our defense, we need the defensive line to step up and put some pressure on Stafford. He has shown a tendency to make bad throws if he is being hurried. If the defensive line plays well, I believe the rest of our defense will be able to raise their level of play as well. But without pressure on Stafford..., he will pick us apart. So our defensive keys will be stopping the run and getting to the Georgia QB.

A proud member of the BOC VolEnforcement community.
