Response to Will Mississippi State be a blow out? |
| MSU has only lost twice this year: to LSU and South Carolina. In those games their average half-time score was 07-17. One of their wins was over Gardner-Webb; we'll ignore that one for obvious reasons. In their remaining 3 wins over Tulane, Auburn and UAB, their average half-time score was 11-14. MSU has suffered only 1 blow-out loss, and that was to the LSU Tigers in the first game of the year. Given that, if we haven't blown them out by half-time, we most likely will not do so. When they keep it close through the first two quarters, they have an established tendency to take their game up a notch and finish strong. These are not your daddy's Mississippi State Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs' PF/g and PA/g stands at 23 and 24 points, respectively. Our Vols related stats are at 35 and 33 points. Given the fact that Tennessee has played an overall tougher schedule but adding a vote of no confidence in our defense (1 great defensive game does not warrant a vote of confidence), I make the following prediction:
Tennessee 38
Miss. State 27
The blow-out can only happen if our defense steps it up for a 2nd consecutive week.
