| with Erik's performance in the game. He was by far the South's best QB for that game. Brennan looked rattled, and Woodson simply made too many mistakes. That said, Woodson probably has the most raw talent. But Ainge, who (like most of the other QBs) had plenty of issues all week during the "practices," summed it up with Iverson-like comments at the end of the game when he said, "Football isn't made to practice; you've got to play the game. You can tell a lot more about someone when they get out here (in a game) and the bullets start coming live, and we're playing football, not practice."
Though he did not have a TD pass in this game he was the most efficient QB on the day and won the South's Offensive MVP. He and Chad Henne were the only two QBs to avoid costly turnovers.
I got so tired of hearing about the other QBs all week...; it made Ainge's performance that much more meaningful to me. And, after the game... ESPN's Todd McShay still did not even mention Erik Ainge in his "wrap-up" of the Senior Bowl QB performances. What the heck is up with that? I guess because Ainge was only there because Brian Brohm declined to attend makes Erik and his performance meaningless.
Erik [13 of 21 for 159 yards], working with guys that he had not played with before, led the South from their 14 yard line 86 yards downfield for the winning TD. He completed 6 pass plays on the drive, including a 4th and 10 pass completion to Andre Caldwell of 18 yards for the 1st down. What did Joe "Todd McShay's Roethlisberger" Flacco do in this game? He went 2 of 7 for 22 yards and an interception. He may potentially be a much better QB, but he couldn't lace Ainge's cleats on this day.
Before Ainge's 3 straight incompletions into the endzone from the 2 yard line there at the end, he was 13 of 18... for a completion percentage of 72%. His 13 of 21 final stat is still good for a 62% completion rate. Booty threw for 72 yards and an interception. Henne threw for 64 yards and 2 TDs; he did not have to throw as much because of the North's Chaucey Washington's success running the ball.
What was there not to like about Erik's performance in this game?
