My Morning Workout

May 5 2006, 4:51 PM

OK, here you go! I have never actually written this down, so I had to take time to do that for you! This is what I do every morning Monday through Friday:

1. Sil Lim Tao Form - 3 sets with tension
2. Inversion Situps (hanging - using inversion boots) - 3 sets, 10-20 reps
3. Hanging Knee Raises - 3 sets, 10-20 reps
4. Dumbell Side Raises (180 degree range) - 3 sets, 20 reps (light dumbells)
5. Dumbell Wrist Rotations - 3 sets, 15-20 reps
6. Reverse Grip Forearm Curls - 3 sets, 12-20 reps
7. Hammer Curls with Tricep Bar - 3 sets, 20 reps
8. Tricep Presses/Curls with Tricep Bar - 3 sets, 20 reps
9. Close Grip Vertical Push-ups (using push up stand) - 3 sets, 20 reps
10. Standing Press-Lockouts with Tricep Bar - 3 sets to failure

I usually do some light stretching before this workout, and more stretching after. I use light to medium weights for all weight movements. NO HEAVY WEIGHTS!!!! This is a great overall toning workout and keeps my body working smoothly! Be careful starting this, and I recommend starting with a lower number of sets and/or reps. Don't overdo it!

Of course I dont now the Sil Lim Tao Form - 3 sets with tension
I think this one is maybay to difficult to explain, but if you can, please.

2. Inversion Situps (hanging - using inversion boots), how do you do these?

10. Standing Press-Lockouts with Tricep Bar - 3 sets to failure, this is the last one I dont know.

If you can explain these exercise I am ready to start.
Thanks again very much, you are a great guy to share this.
There arent to many teachers who will do that.

Ps.: sorry, one more

May 5 2006, 5:31 PM

Forgot one more,
what is the diferrence between:

6. Reverse Grip Forearm Curls - 3 sets, 12-20 reps and
7. Hammer Curls with Tricep Bar - 3 sets, 20 reps

I know nr. 6 and I know nr. 7 but with dumbels and then a sort off vertical bicep curls. But I never heart off Hammer curls with a Tricep bar. How do you do this one?

Sorry for asking so much. But when I get started I want to do it right. Hope you can understand that.

Sincerally

Wim

More Explanations

May 6 2006, 12:41 PM

what is the diferrence between:

6. Reverse Grip Forearm Curls - 3 sets, 12-20 reps and

This is done with dumbells, palm down with wrist allowed to bend as you raise the weight. Curl on side, lower it completely, then curl the other side. This is great for the wrists and for the inner forearms.

7. Hammer Curls with Tricep Bar - 3 sets, 20 reps

Using the tricep bar, grip the vertical handles in front of you with your arms hanging fairly straight, then curl the weight up toward your chin. Lower the weight back down slowly and do again. This is great for the top of the forearms and for lengthening the biceps. Excellent exercise to improve your punching power!

The Exercises

May 6 2006, 12:36 PM

Hello Wim!

You are correct in saying that Sil Lim Tao is way too difficult to describe in word! Sorry about that! I can explain the others though!

Here you go:

2. Inversion Situps (hanging - using inversion boots), how do you do these?

You need inversion boots. They fit tight around your ankles and have hooks positioned in front of your ankle right above your instep that allow you to hang upside down from a chin up bar. From this upside down position, you proceed to curl your upper body upward toward your knees. This is a difficult exercise, but the benefits are awesome!

10. Standing Press-Lockouts with Tricep Bar - 3 sets to failure, this is the last one I dont know.

A tricep bar has two vertical grips that allow you to hold the bar in front of you with both hands in a vertical fist position, a little over a foot apart. This is great for us JKD practitioners, as it allows us to do exercises that involve movements like the vertical fist punch with the elbow down. To do the press lockout, hold the bar at chest height with your elbows bent. Then, slowly thrust the bar out and away from you in a straight line at chest height. Hold for a second or two them bring the bar back in. That is one rep. Do not try to use too much weight on this one, as you may pull muscles in your upper back!
