I wonder how do we deal with an opponent who has a gun? Because most people uses a gun nowadays! ANd most people even if you give them the money or what ever chances are they will kill you anyway so how do you defend?
It is hard to answer this question as there are too many variables to deal with; how close is the gun to you, what kind of gun, how is the guy acting, are you alone or with someone... I would say see a Richard Ryan seminar/tape as I have heard that he covers some of this. If the gun is close enough to you, you might try trapping. Run (zig-zag) for cover a moving target his harder to hit. Like I said tough question.
I carry a handgun most every where I go so I would say force with force. Also due to other training I try to be very aware of my surroundings so as to mentally be prepared to jump for cover, fight or flight. Having to stop and think about waht to do is not good. If I am in an area that warrants it I will actually keep my hand on my handgun at the ready. Example: Holiday season at the local mall, parking garage, perfect place to be mugged as your hands are more than likely full of bags and your only thought would be to get to the car asap. As I walk to my car I would have my hand on the weapon, walk in the middle of the aisle, keys ready and stay alert. When I am in my car the handgun is right beside me. I have had someone try and jump into the vehicle with me.
Check out the gun defense in Bruce Lee's Fighting
Method (Self-defense). He has a couple of good
techniques. Also, the Krav Maga book by Imi Sde-Or
deals with a lot of gun defenses.
Most importantly...practice, practice, practice!
You don't get a second chance in a gun assault!
Be very careful and try to stay clear of such
occurences.
