Mook Jong training and Mook Jong's

I actually have 2 questions relating to Mook Jong's.

First question is when should a student add a Mook Jong into their training?
I have not used one in the past and don't have access to one. But it seems like a great piece of training equiptment when you have time to train but no one to train with. What is your opinion on when it is a good time to add a Mook Jong into training.?

Second question. In my research on Mook Jongs I have seen a lot of the Mook Jongs having uneven arms. They come out of the base of the dummy vertically at different heights. I noticed that some places advertise that they angle the arms so that the tips of the arms are at equal heights.
I notice that the Dummy's that you sell have them exactly at the same height. I can think of some very simple reasons to keep them at the same height. I can only think of the fact the structurally keeping them at different heights makes the base of the dummy stronger possibly.
Can you tell me your reasons for keeping the arms at the same vertical height.? My thought is just that it's not a good practice to have one side heigher. For example... your tan sao... bong sao etc. will be
constantly hitting the arm at a higher level on one side verses the other.

Thank you in Advance.
BTW. The Clifton Park DVD's were great.

Mook Jong Training

December 17 2006, 10:32 PM

Hello Steve!

Mook jongs are a very important part of Jeet Kune Do training! I have them in both of my kwoons and one at home! It doesn't matter when you start training with the mook jong, as long as you are performing the movements properly! I say the earlier the better, as long as you know what you are doing! Level arms are definitely better than the uneven arms that you see on some mooks. They are better for all trapping applications, as well as sliding leverage strikes, training both sides equally and training you to keep your strikes centerline directed! It would be much easier to show you why than to tell you, of course!

By the way, I'm glad you liked the DVDs! I was very pleased with the way they came out!

Keep Blasting!
