This drill is only slightly different from the basic mirror drill. In the basic mirror drill, you face off with your opponent on the rim of the fighting measure. Using push shuffles and sidesteps, you attempt to mirror what your partner does while keeping the distance between you the same. In the freestyle drill, either of you can use whatever footwork pattern you like, while still trying to maintain the distance, thus the drill becomes "freestyle" instead of limited patterns.
