A different kind of weight training

I've heard of some people using ankle and wrist weights while training their punches and kicks to gain more speed and power.

Would this be an effective way to train without overextending joints/muscles/etc?

Training With Ankle/Wrist Weights

April 18 2007, 3:23 PM

Hello Brandon!

It is OK to do this as long as you work in slow to semi-slow motion. DO NOT try to do any fast hitting or kicking with weights. If you do, you are in danger of hyperextension or other damage to your elbow and knee joints. In this case slow is very good, but fast is VERY BAD! Be careful using this training method, do it right (right being slow and controlled movement), and you WILL see good results!
