Sifu,
I think I pulled my hamstring and it is sore. How do I train with a sore hamstring, cause it seems to affect everything I do.

Hamstring Recovery

June 14 2007, 8:58 AM

Hi Gregg!

The hamstring, being such an often used muscle, is very important and takes a bit longer to heal due to it's larger size! I would suggest that you just take it easy with your kicking for a while, keeping them low and slow, just working for form. Use this semi down time to read and study more, and develop your upper body tools further. Take ibuprofen every four hours and start stretching lighly as soon as you feel up to it. Nothing too strenuous though! Good luck with that and I wish you a speedy recovery!

Just rub some dirt on it you wuss!! Nah just joking got that line from a movie. I would keep it wrapped when doing any training as this does provide some relief. Either use an ace bandage or a leg wrap that you can buy at any drug store. Walmart may have them as well.

Take a break!

June 16 2007, 1:27 AM

If your muscle is really sore, maybe you should take a break from just about all training for maybe a week or two so you can recover more.
Overtraining is real, and it can wipe you out and set you back. The nervous system can only take so much.
Maybe during the first week, you can practice the sil lin tao everyday, as it is not stressfull. Then you can ease back like Sifu said.

take it easy

June 19 2007, 12:58 AM

I have actually torn my hamstring, and it hurts VERY badly. If your hamstring is just sore, take it easy on it, give it time and don't overdue anything on it. Make sure you are stretching throughout the day, not just prior to training. Once you tear it, you will be out for a long time.
