Speed bag training

Hi Sifu,
Is there a difference in the way a boxer uses the speed bag and the way a JKD practitioner would use the bag? Would it be that a JKD practitioner would do the same as a boxer except that he/she would throw in extra JKD type strikes to the bag?

Speed Bag

I hate to say it, but the speed bag is virtually useless to the Jeet Kune Do practitioner! I use it for tricep/shoulder work, but it has NOTHING to do with my Jeet Kune Do! And I do mean NOTHING! It teaches incorrect form and improper structure! We are elbows in and down all the way! We don't even roll our punches over like a boxer (turning the fist during delivery of the punch, thus allowing the elbow to turn outward)! If I had to choose which piece of equipment to leave out, the speed bag would be it!

Thats great news! I know now that I can make room on the same spot as my speed bag. A spring arm station will work great there. What equipment do you believe is vital to a JKD practitioner?
