Creating Disrespectul, Useless Controversy

Hello Everyone!

This is my post from another forum, regarding controversy surrounding Sifu Dan Inosanto and his martial arts career, specifically the time he spent with Bruce Lee, the certifications that he received, and his approach to teaching Bruce Lee's martial art. I was wondering how many of you feel pretty much the same as I do regarding this situation? I would appreciate it if you post your comments after reading my post. Here we go:

I think it is a waste of time to try to cut down anyone who actually trained with Bruce Lee, regardless of how long they trained, or what certificates they got! The older I get, the more that I feel it is a waste to cut down anyone ... PERIOD! No one is going to change what I believe, just like no one will change what Bob believes (referring to Bob Landers here)! We are all right in the way that we are doing what works for us, and what we believe in!

I have my way of representing Bruce Lee's teachings, just as any other legitimate Jun Fan Gung Fu/Jeet Kune Do practitioner. I can try to push my views on someone until I am blue in the face, but the bottom line is this ... I just end up with a BLUE FACE! LOL

As for the original students of Bruce Lee, they were there and trained with THE MAN! We were NOT! Even if someone just had a few training sessions with Bruce Lee, that is more than we can say! I personally don't care how much time anyone spent with him. If they got something that they can share with me to make my learning experience more complete, then that is all that matters to me! That should be all that matters to any of us!

As for Sifu Inosanto, I'm sure he could care less about what anyone says about him. A lot of it is pure jealousy, as he is somewhere teaching a seminar almost every weekend! I think many of us wish that we were living that kind of life, rather than just getting a seminar here and there! We may not exactly agree with his approach to Jeet Kune Do, but he is doing what works for him and making great money doing it! That is certainly something to admire him for! I say bury this now, because quite frankly ... WHO CARES?

Dan has more money then I will ever have. I have never seen him and most likely never will. I dont like the kali stuff and will never do it. He found his path and bought the road that went with it.
I liked him in the green hornet.

yea

I agree. If you don't like what someone is teaching, don't pay them to teach you. If you're not paying them to teach you, who cares what they are teaching as long as it does not interfere with what you do.

I think the same way you do. Dan doen't have to prove anything to anyone. His JKD path is his own. Ted Wong was only given second rank from Bruce so he couldn't be the end all tell all in JKD. But that doen't matter. What matters is does what someone else teach affect your training? NO! If you let JKD politics affect your training then your losing everything Bruce tried to eliminate in the martial arts. Be yourself & improve yourself.

could'nt agree more Sifu, why ? why do it. He has put in the time and has more knowledge than most and it is an insult to put him down. If you were to have a chance to work with him and did'nt take it then you are'nt giving yourself the the chance to progress. It just boggles my mind why people are so closed minded.

You Know how I feel

Lamar,

First and foremost, Dan is a very nice person that I have trained with many times. I have never heard one time him talk about any of BLS before. To me and my observation, BL would not have wanted this kind of BS going on. The point of JKD in my opinion is about "Self' or "You, As A Person in relation To Other's and The World Surroundings". No one was "CERTIFIED" as a Jeet Kune Do Instructor by Bruce Lee himself. That there in itself should have stoped all the BS, but it hasn't. The messages that Bruce Lee lefted behind speck volume's on the subject. As they say, "the writings on the wall, but are we seeing the message"?

Anyway, take care and keep on being you. God Bless you and your people. "Peace Be with You"

Keep "IT" Real,

Each OBLS...

April 2 2008, 4:35 PM

learned something from Bruce so each has a part of the puzzle that they teach as their JKD. Bruce left only three men to teach at his schools with Dan being one of them. If Bruce was not confident in Dan he would not allowed him to teach neither would he have left him in charge of the school; Taky Kimura being the other person left in charge to teach that is still with us.

where does it started??

April 2 2008, 6:07 PM

i like youre words about that mr Lamar,

afther the passing of bruce lee many of the original students started to train together in the backward , i wonder why they got devided and who started to say that this one or that one was good or not or true or fake .

cause obviously some told there students that there teaching was the holy true and others where fake and not good .

i think many persons get confused because at the inosanto academy they have many instructers that teach differant arts and i guess some person think that they are teached all in the same time in a mix while in reality they are separated.

thats all :P

a plus

You know, there was a guy who Bashed Dan in his book The Tao of Bruce Lee (at least in his interview) saying he wasn't a fighter without his weapons. Ironically he was a Joe Lewis Fanboy groupie and had a abused neglected child hood.

My point, well there will always be controversy. Its like Christianity, Jesus didn't Tell to do whatever the Heck we wanted to get to heaven, there are principles, however everyone has his own path with him..... (You can quote me on that)

People create controversy for attention and sadly marketing. I have friend who met dan and loved him, I had another who said he couldn't stand him.. Does he have a purpose? Yeah, if you want to learn his stuff its his stuff, just like if you want to learn BJJ No gi you would seek out a no gi instructor.

So basically, I agree with you Lamar... I don't understand this soap opera, but opinions are like anuses, everybody has one, and some let it stink.

War and humans go hand in hand if we have one you will have the other look at our history. Showing N Proving would put a limit on trash talking but who wants to spend their life fighting idiots. If Inosanto would give these people the time of day I'm sure most would take their words back or at least stay quiet.

Seems like martial arts and drama will always be together. All of the arts have their history filled with fighting with other arts or internal conflicts created from personal rifts with in the art itself.

I would say loyaltly also plays a big part in why the drama continues. Everyone here can side with me in saying that those who have shown us something about anything we hold in high regard. Along with personal pride loyalty will cause a person to fight just in prue defence of the character of a teacher.
