Has this happened to you?

Last Sat. night we were involved in some "altercations"/situations that were intense and heated. At one point I was confronted with/by a person and luckily for him I both held myself in check and was not given the go ahead to deal with it. During this whole escapade my arms, hands, feet, legs felt light but yet extremly twitchy almost spastic while my body core/trunk felt as if I was about to explode and implode all at the same time. My mind was keenly aware of what was going on around me. I have been in fights and very highly intense situations before but never had this happen to me or felt this way. I literally felt afraid of what I was thinking and wanted to do. I don't think it was the adrenaline rush.

I believe you freaked out

April 28 2008, 8:27 PM

I have this happen. I was at frat party, and just so happen another fraternity was trying start mess. In addition, they had more members and they were pretty huge. Out of all the people to approach me was the one who looked like a boot legged version of Vin Diesle. Luckily for me he just stared me down bumped my chest and walked on. However my frat brother didn't take to kindly to this and and took off his shirt and pushed the man into the crowd. People started swingin' for the fences and the cops came. I was wanting to hurt that guy so bad, I had my keys in my hand waiting to stab his eyes if he tried to hurt me (He was well over twice my size and muscular), however, I knew I would have to control it or I may wind up in jail (it happens) so I like you had wanted to do something, but because of everything else running in my mind I froze. Good thing I had back up.

No freakout

April 28 2008, 8:34 PM

and I did not freeze; I was also the larger of the two. I have been in the stare down situation before and did not have this happen. It was as if I was trying to will this person to act as if he was going to do something or just twitch so that I could "kill" him. In the security roll we are in we try and not hit. I wil say I was pushed to the limit.

When you say not given the go, you mean you weren't allowed to attack? Yeah that is scary. I'm glad you're okay. I guess it is good you were the big guy (literally and mentally) in this situation

The Incident

April 29 2008, 12:04 AM

Kent is employed by me at Club 1120 on the Southside of downtown Birmingham. I am Head of Security and he is second in the line of command, and my most senior student working under me at the club. I was right there when this incident occurred. When Kent said "the go ahead" he was referring to a look from me that would have been his cue to go ahead and take the guy out! The guy is a hothead, and although he is ex-military and thinks he is a badass, Kent would have destroyed him in the blink of an eye! I know that without a doubt! Kent was feeling the "readiness" and the "intense mental/psychological focus" that comes when you are TRULY PREPARED for combat! I could see it just by looking at him! I knew that Kent would have KILLED the other person if he had attacked, which is why I did everything in my power to keep the incident from escalating further! Fortunately the situation was defused, and things were back to normal within a few minutes.

Re: Has this happened to you?

I have had something like this happen to me at work many times. I think it comes from "it" wanting to be let go and you deciding it would be best if nothing happened. At one point I would even describe my feelings as pure rage. No matter how much I wanted to I could not forget about what happened; hours later I was still ready to let "it" go.

I've learned self control and skill are very different traits. A person whose skills are always controlled by emotions will eventually end up being defeated by those emotions.

you did the right thing.

can't say that I have.

I was once spit on by my former brother-in-law and I knocked the dog $%&# out of him the instant it happened without even thinking about it. It was a good thing I had control over my emotions when he did it the second time around, because if I had done what I was GOING to do, he would either be dead, severly crippled, or both LOL and I would be in jail because a cop walked up right as I was in that moment of "should I cream this idiot or not".
