Difference

Hello Robbie!

Jeet Kune Do is primarily a blend of techniques, theories and principles from Wing Chun Gung Fu, Boxing and Fencing. Wing Chun Gung Fu is the single most important art in this formulation. In other words, though they are separate arts, Wing Chun Gung Fu is a very important part of Jeet Kune Do!

Well, from what ive studied

Wing Chun is an art created by a meek woman who needed to fight some War Lord guy. So because she was not UBER STRONG, she decided to create a style that emphasized speed and directness. So you see traps, straight punches, etc etc.

Well in JKD, real JF JKD (JF = Jun Fan or Original cuz that was bruce lee's real name, betcha didn't know that :) There is Wing Chun as a base, boxing and fencing. Moreover some savate looking kicks that are kinda tweaked.

Well Bruce felt that Wing Chun by itself was too hindered by many movements. Moreover the people he dealt with in America were larger than his Native Chinese counter parts (now lets not dwell on stereotypes or I will Yao Ming you :) but hey that is what is written pretty much every where) so he took Wing Chun as a base, added some boxing foot work and boxing hits (albeit SouthPaw, put that strong right hand forward) and fencing for entering and hitting that straight lead.

And that is about what I have learned. Oh yeah, just help out. Just read a bunch of old posts. It will help you out alot. I did this one night I thought I had achieved enlightment. I hope that helps.
