I was kind of confused on what this guy was saying and how Tim responded. I am going to cut and paste here.

Jared: "ok, lets say you bridge the gap, and you gain an attachment. you proceed to pak the opponents arm, and he blocks the punch with his rear hand. you then proceed wedge that rear arm (and strike with your left). from here you have tons of options, but i want to narrow the scope of my question. ideally what could be a better follow up, a hookwith my lead hand or a straight punch? and, am i "supposed \" to keep forward pressure or could i circle or sidestep to right and throw the hook? i ask this because i have a tendency to sidestep to the right and throw the hook from there. the reason i THINK i do this is because i think it helps me put in a half beat with an oblique kick? what are your thoughts on this?"

Tim:We no longer teach the wedge because when I did it on Bremer he loped and hit me, and he had never seen it before. The important thing about any technique is that it works on someone who is very good. When we train a technique our training partener takes one various rolls. We usually do 1 roll at a time then mix them up. Possible rolls are:
1. The street fighter who doesn't care about your blackbelt and charges.
2. The grappler who shoots or grabs.
3. The boxer
4. The Thai fighter
5. The JKD'er
6. Your choice
If you train like this you will discover the awswer to your question, which is it depends on your opponent.
Throw away anything that only works on someone who sucks.

My question is HOW THE HECK do you LOP a Wedge? Isn't the wedge (I'm new to trapping done it only few times with my friend) where both of the opponent's arms are pinned? Moreover in addition to this question, are there some traps that are rarely ever used, while the others are? And if so which are they, because by reading this I am curious which ones get the boot and which one to focus on. THanks

Wedge

The wedge is a passive movement where you insert a tan sao long enough to create the wedge and insert another strike. As soon as the wedge is inserted, the skilled opponent who has trained trapping and energy/sensitivity drills will take that moment to lop sao the wedging hand, using the arm that it "wedged" to lop as they strike with their now free other hand! Hope that makes sense to you! Things like this can be shown much easier than explained on a forum!

wedge

Sifu, please go over this with me when I see you next month. I was thinking maybe the example was wedging something other than a tan sao i.e. a biu sao to the throat or neck

Jeff
