Knife Defense...? for Sifu Davis (and any of the group)

Hello Sifu and everyone:

What would be a really good JKD defense against
someone who is extremely good with a knife? I
know interception could be. But, what about
someone who is clever with ducking and slashing
in tight, economical motions? For instance, you
attempt to intercept with a low lead side-kick
and they drop low and slash your leg.

I really believe that I would rather face someone
(up close) who has a gun than a really fast and
good knife fighter.

I look forward to some great input. Thanks to
everyone.

Dick

1) RUN

2) RUN

3) Throw something and/or use an object or clothing as an obstruction

4) if you HAVE TOO....
Pass or Pak/Trap and Eye Gouge

You are going to get cut pretty much no matter what you do.

I agree
run, and run and run.

get distance between you and him, grab a chair, a broom,or grab someone to put in front of you.take your PANT'S,UNDERWARE, SHIRT ofF and yell "I comeing home JESUS"
I be no expert in knife fighting but what I have seen is you would be all sliced up in just a few seconds then your dead.

Too Broad A Question

June 19 2008, 12:09 PM

Hello Dick!

This is much too broad a question to be answered on the forum, but as already stated, you need to prepare to be cut, because a REALLY GOOD knife fighter WILL cut you regardless of what attempt you make to stop him! Notice that I said a REALLY GOOD knife fighter. Most that you would encounter are probably not that good, but you don't know that until the encounter begins! I have had a few knife encounters in my life and I was cut on three different occasions. Take the psychological barriers out of the way by KNOWING that you are probably going to be cut, then focus on TOTAL DESTRUCTION of the opponent in front of you! You KNOW that this person could end your life, so your immediate concern is to DESTROY THEM with whatever means you have at your disposal! One advantage that you have is that most of the time in a weapons encounter, the opponent tends to forget about everything (all of their natural body weapons) but that weapon that they have in their hand. Therefore, it is everything that you have against that one tool. This simplifies things greatly for you, and enables you to focus more on NOT being cut. The best thing to do is to just go in there thinking, I WILL PROBABLY BE CUT, then go to work and methodically apply your tools and take them out! Other than that ... RUN!!!!!

Keep Blasting!
