Sorry, I must plead "no knowledge" re: human tarts.
However, on our only visit together to Boston, shortly after we were married, my wife and I asked "What's for dessert?" after dinner in a restaurant there. Among the selections on the waitress's list was "a cherry tat". I believe it was my wife who asked her in all candor, and not mockingly, "What's a cherry tat?". "A tat , a tat, you know, a tat!", was the waitress's attempt at clarification.
(Perhaps I should spell it "taat")
