re. "mechanical engineers might know of this word."

I heard the term a few times in my career, and remember dimly that it was a proper name. More typical was an "Alemite fitting" or just a plain "grease fitting".

Ironically, my father admitted to making knock-offs of Alemite fittings, early in his career as a machinist, in partnership with another man.
